Our Design Crew has been diligently at work on this year’s PA PLTW Design Challenge since July. This year’s contest will be a little different than in past years.
There will be three separate contests this year. They will be held at
Goggleworks in Reading, PA West Allegheny High School in Imperial, PA(Cancelled) Lakeland High School in Jermyn, PA
Registration for the contests is closed.
Middle schools will compete as last year but only at Goggleworks and Lakeland HS. There will be no Western middle school competition. Middle schools will compete against other middle schools at the competition site solving a project unknown to them until they arrive at the site.
The high school Design Challenge is different this year. You can download the high school Design Challenge HERE.
Answers to submitted questions can be found on the FAQ page. Be sure to see the FAQ webpage for changes to rules not posted on this page.
High schools will be required to submit one design per school, by a specific date, meeting all the requirements of the Design Brief. The design that the Penn State Berks engineering team determines to be best will win the Best Design Award for that specific competition. It will be up to your school to decide which design will be submitted. Only one design may be submitted and that submittal is final.
High schools that submit a design will be permitted to send one team of up to 5 students (must be IED/POE as per the Design Challenge) to the competition site to construct a robot in accordance with the Design given to them. Implementation teams will compete for Best Implementation, Best Presentation, and Best Teamwork. Be sure to see the FAQ page for changes to rules not posted on this page.
Good luck to all!!
