1. What are the High School Courses in the PLTW Program?

Presently, there are 8 courses in the PLTW High School Pre-engineering Program.  You can click on any of the courses below to open a smaller window with a description of the course. There are three Foundation Courses.

Foundation Courses: Introduction To Engineering Design (Required)
  Principles of Engineering (Required)
  Digital Electronics (Optional)

Schools are required to offer Introduction to Engineering Design and Principles of Engineering.

Depending on your school's STEM Agreement, a high school must offer one or two additional courses from those below to complete your implementation.

Specialty Courses: Computer Integrated Manufacturing (Optional)
  Civil Engineering & Architecture (Optional)
  Biotechnical Engineering (Optional)
  Aerospace Engineering (Optional)

 

Capstone Course:

Engineering Design and Development (Optional)

 

2. What are the middle school units in the PLTW program?

Presently, there are 6 nine-week units available in the PLTW Middle School Pre-engineering Program.  You can click on any of the units below to open a smaller window with a description of the unit. A minimum of two units must be offered by a middle school.

3. Must I attend a Counselor Conference?

The Agreement your school district signs stipulates, "Counselor Training will occur annually, in the form of a “Counselor Conference” at multiple sites. The School District agrees to pay all fees and expenses in conjunction with this conference. Although it is suggested to have all counselors attend the conference at least once, the School District agrees to send a minimum of one counselor per participating high school and middle school site (including nonparticipating “feeder” middle schools) every three years." Penn State's Counselor Conference is typically held the last week in November at the Penn State Berks campus in Reading, PA. 4. Can I apply for Act 48 hours for attending a Counselor Conference?

Yes, Act 48 hours are approved for attending the entire Project Lead The Way Counselor Conference at Penn State Berks.  Typically, you will receive 4.5 hours for the conference.
